I used conceive plus and a CB digital OV test. As soon as I got my smiley face we dtd that day and the next. Lay on my back for at least 15 minutes both times. So happy! :-D xx

How do Clearblue digital ovulation tests work?

Clearblue digital ovulation tests detect the surge in luteinising hormone (LH) that occurs 24-36 hours before ovulation. When the test detects this surge, it displays a smiley face, indicating your most fertile days. The NHS recommends tracking ovulation to help identify your fertile window when trying to conceive.

When should I have sex after getting a positive ovulation test?

Once you see the smiley face on your digital ovulation test, it's best to have sex that day and the following day to maximise your chances of conception. Sperm can survive for up to five days in the reproductive tract, so timing intercourse around ovulation is key. Many couples find that every other day during the fertile window works well.

Does lying down after sex help you get pregnant?

Whilst there's no conclusive scientific evidence that lying down after sex significantly improves conception rates, many women find it a comforting practice. Staying horizontal for 10-15 minutes won't do any harm and may help you relax during your trying to conceive journey. The NHS doesn't specifically recommend this, but it certainly won't hinder your chances.

How long should I try to conceive before seeing my GP?

NICE guidelines recommend that couples under 35 should try to conceive for 12 months before seeking medical advice, whilst those over 35 should consult their GP after 6 months. Around 1 in 7 UK couples experience fertility issues, so don't hesitate to book an appointment if you have concerns. Your GP can arrange initial tests and refer you for further investigation if needed.

Can fertility lubricants really help you get pregnant?

Fertility-friendly lubricants like Conceive Plus are specifically formulated to be pH-balanced and sperm-safe, unlike regular lubricants which can impair sperm motility. These products are designed to support sperm survival and movement whilst providing comfortable lubrication during intercourse. If you're TTC and need lubrication, choosing a fertility-friendly option is a sensible choice.

What is the best time of day to take an ovulation test?

For the most accurate results, it's generally recommended to take ovulation tests in the early afternoon, between 12pm and 6pm, as LH levels typically rise in the morning and appear in urine a few hours later. Avoid drinking large amounts of fluid for a couple of hours before testing to prevent diluting your urine. Testing at the same time each day helps ensure consistency in your results.

Are ovulation tests accurate enough to rely on when trying to conceive?

Digital ovulation tests like Clearblue are over 99% accurate at detecting the LH surge that precedes ovulation. However, the NHS notes that they work best when used alongside other fertility awareness methods, such as tracking cervical mucus changes and basal body temperature. If you have irregular cycles or conditions like PCOS, speak to your GP as these tests may be less reliable for you.
